Well, let’s begin with the first part of this post. Which is the question you’ve been waiting for. And then I will move on to the next part which is important as well. I’m going to answer some questions to help you understand better about monetizing YouTube shorts and earning money.
Q: Are YouTube shorts monetized? And can you increase revenue from them?
A: The answer is yes. You can earn money and partners who are monetizing on YouTube can earn money. However, it won’t start until February 1, 2023. However, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind. Because shorts are easy to make that doesn’t mean any shorts can earn money.
Important point
You need to follow the guidelines for monetizing on YouTube and being a partner in the program and policies. Because YouTube now pays attention to many things and if you fail to follow them. It won’t allow you to earn money. Also, monetized creators will need to accept the Shorts Monetization Module and YouTube Premium in the Shorts Feed to show start earning money.
Q: How do be eligible to earn money from shorts?
- Original shorts you make (never use clips from movies or using others’ content)
- Don’t use fake bots or Artificial to increase views or scrolls
- Should follow the YouTube terms for advertiser-friendly content guidelines.
Q: How much money earn from the shorts Ads?
A: If you have this question in mind, that’s good but there are a few things to understand the answer better. However, applied revenue would be %45 for the monetized creator. And YouTube shorts monetization has a system to calculate each month. Which includes four steps.
- The ads revenue running between shorts will be used to reward the creator and pay for the music licensing used in the shorts (Pool Shorts Feed ad revenue)
- Split the money between the creator pool and music partners based on the tracks used (if there is music used in the shorts)
- Allocate the creator pool and distribute the revenue to the monetizing creators based on their share of total views from monetizing creators’ Shorts in each country.
- Applied revenue share which creators will get the %45 regardless of music used or not.
FYI
If you are confused about the word ” Creator pool” think of it as a pool for the creators where they earn money and how much. It’s the term used for YouTube shorts. You can read more about short monetizing and pooling through this link. They explain more about how this work.

Excellent post Fransic! I recently began my YouTube channel and can support that Shorts can bring a wider exposure to your main channel. However, you have to be careful of the content you upload. If it’s just random and not directly related to your main channel, it could actually do more harm than good. This is because people might subscribe through one Short expecting to see more similar videos, and when that doesn’t happen, they unsubscribe or become ghost members. This leads to low engagement and subsequently poor growth.
The key is to make sure your Shorts content are directly connected to your main channel.
I appreciate you for sharing your thoughts about it. Thank you for reading!
