A person who using the phone

Hello everyone and welcome back to another post. I would like to share yet another self-development post. And talk about something important. Some of already been through this and I understand what it means to have. I will be explaining every in this post, as much as I can. About the question “Can social media cause anxiety”.

My main goal in this post is to share ways to deal with the causes of social media. And It’s going to be from experience from the past. But if you dig deep, you will also find studies about cases. Because I’m not the only one dealing with media anxiety

If you find this helpful, please make sure to share it with others. Because I’m sure there are a lot of people who are dealing with this already. I would appreciate it a lot if you spend an extra few minutes sharing with other people.

Can social media cause anxiety, ways to deal with it?

Let’s talk a little bit about social media anxiety and whether or not is accurate. Because some people don’t spend so much time browsing or having a social online. Back in the days when I had a lot of friends using Facebook and chatting for hours.

Now, you can find many social media such as Instagram, Snapchat, and even Twitter. These can create negative stuff such as depression and worry. And sometimes it can get worse if the person is not careful and paying attention.

Q: Does social media affect our mental health?

A: The answer is simply, YES. There are a lot of cases happening from being on social media where you would stress or be depressed from something. That’s because the people talking to you through these social media platforms are real.

Among all the users who use social media, you might stumble upon some people who would impact your life negatively. Which can cause mental health issues. Maybe create some kind of disorder. Therefore, I highly recommend that you be careful about that.

Ways social media cause mental health issues:

  • Through chatting with others on social media
  • Comments from negative people
  • Reading some fake news on social media
  • Being part of communities that have negative people

I’m sure there are a lot of ways people can get mental health issues. But these are some of the main ways. For me, it was through chatting with online friends that gave me social anxiety. And I had to learn how to deal with it. So, I want to share that with you in this post. Let’s find the answer to the question “Can social media cause anxiety?”

Q: Can social media cause anxiety?

A: I think some people already know this, but the answer is yes. You can get anxiety from social media and through the ways, I just mentioned above. Maybe different ways that I didn’t mention. Make sure to be careful and avoid it.

A woman using the phone browsing social media while listening to music. Can social media cause anxiety

One of my friends had a strong negative effect and was in an anxiety depression situation for a while. When we talked on the phone, she explained to me everything. I had to call her because she left social media for a long time trying to recover.

If I learned something from being on social media. Anything can happen. Who knows that you can get a date from Twitter lol. I was surprised when I knew that, but it is possible and some friends tried it as well.

However, we need to be careful about social media use. Stay away from people who want to have a negative impact on your life. And make you worry about more stuff than you already have from real-life things.

Believe it or not, media use has some symptoms that can determine if you have social media anxiety. Well, I will mention some of them.

Social media anxiety symptoms:

  • Being so distracted by social media
  • Worrying more about things happening on social media
  • Prefer to stay away from friends and family to be on social media
  • Overthinking about social media stuff
  • Lack of concentration on other important tasks due to things happening on social media

I would go on longer about the symptoms and they are all not good. Make our life more difficult to enjoy. You will be wasting hours in a situation that you don’t need to be in. So, I highly recommend that you be careful and avoid the negative side of social media.

Q: Can you find good people on social media?

A: You know you have to ask this question if you are not on social media a lot. And the answer is of course. You just need to pay attention and be careful. I’ve met a lot of friends and now they are best friends from social media. Spend time learning about each other more. Take it to the next level and call, don’t just chat.

Ways to deal with social media anxiety

Well, I talked about some questions like “Can social media cause anxiety?” and mentioned some important information. But now I want to share with you the secret anxiety disorders and causes which you might get among others. How to enjoy being on social media and make good friends.

Something you should know is that following these ways can take time. Especially, if you’re doing it for the first time to start doing them. It took me a while to master them. Humans can have a difficult time changing or letting go. Trust me, I learned this the hard way. My best friend also suffered from it as well.

Whatever you do, make sure to stay consistent and don’t give up. Because how social media can impact your life is very important. It can damage other things. For example, if you are a business owner or at work as an employee.

Practice not taking things too seriously on social media

The first thing that I will HIGHLY recommend is not taking things too seriously. I’ve had a whole group as friends. And the only reason we enjoy our friendship is that we didn’t take things seriously at all. We had fun and so many good memories.

Whether you are using social media to make friends or engage with others. Since there are different reasons for media use. This is very important for any reason you would have. Because it will level up and impact your real life.

It’s something I always inform my friends too. Well, to be honest, I was one of these people who spent too many hours on social media. But I knew that I don’t take anything from social media too seriously.

Even if a drama between friends. We used to deal with it adding some humor to it. Mostly we talk(through a call) in real life about things like, not using chatting.

Don’t get too involved in things

There will be a lot of things happening on social media. Which can create so much trouble for you and it’s unnecessary. You will get mental health issues when you don’t have to. Trust me, this is something I’ve tried before. When I was too nice trying to help others. They would drag me into more problems with them.

No matter what social media you are using, there will be always chaos and drama. That might cause you a social anxiety disorder. Just make sure to ignore it if you want to be involved. Don’t get too involved because it will not turn good for you most of the time.

Q: How can you get involved in something?

  • Comment on something drama between friends
  • Dealing with issues with online friends
  • joining drama on social media groups
  • Talking about chaos happening

Then, it’s not about “Can social media cause anxiety” but what else can social media do to your mental health. Sometimes you will be into never-ending troubles. If you get too involved and they would include you.

Don’t dwell on social media and talk in real life

A woman talking on a the phone with another person.

If you don’t take your friendship with people you like to the next level. You might either lose them or keep living a social life which is not good. This is one of the biggest mistakes that I will never make in my life. When I meet someone and that person is good. I will work my way to meet them. But because I’m too focused on work nowadays, I didn’t pay attention too much to that.

Don’t keep chatting all the time. Trust me, you might think it’s good or whatever. But as soon as you find that good friend on social media. Try a call with that person. See how you get along talking with each other. Maybe can be a good step to meeting each other as well.

Do more outside activities than being on social media

Another great thing that can help you deal with this. When you do activities outside more than being on social media. Sometimes doing this can be way better than bothering yourself with what is happening on social media. You won’t get anxiety symptoms from media use.

The opposite is going to happen when you go outside. Which is being creative and free from media mental health issues. Believe me, when I say I learned this the hard way as well. You don’t have to worry about whether or not can social media cause anxiety.

Conclusion of “can social media cause anxiety, ways to deal with it?”

I think anxiety caused by social media is actually really common these days. I like to think that online things don’t bother me, but I suppose they have probably do in a way. That being said my feed is very curated. I’m quite conscious of who I follow (and don’t) and think it’s really important to do so.

I firmly believe social media can cause anxiety. That’s why I’ve learned at a young age when I first got a phone to not be so hung up on apps like Facebook and instagram, and only look on them sparingly. Like in the evenings or a quick glance in the mornings. No more then that. These are great tips though!

As you point out, social media can be a source of stress for many. I think it prevents people from establishing deep connections. You see friends and family at a get together and most of them are on the phone. They’re not present with the people in front of them and they’re not present with whoever they’re texting with. We are social beings and without that real connection many relationships suffer.

Social media are addictive. When you are scrolling in your Facebook waiting for something to catch your attention, it’s the same as a gambler waiting for the ball in roulette to stop. And when you finally find something you want to read or watch, you get the same dopamine hit as the gambler. And that’s just basic neurology. Than you have things you mentioned in your article… So yes, social media are definitely bad for us, especially for teens whose brains are not able to regulate all the inputs and dopamine hits. But I really hope we will learn to deal with it somehow 🙂

It is up to us to create the space we want to be in and in doing so, you have to be careful. I absolutely agree with this. Social media affects us on a daily basis, and it has changed so many things. It is good to keep this in mind and keep social media use in check.

I haven’t met that problem. I mainly social media as a way to promote my business and personal brand. But it’s always good to know about how to deal with the problem to prevent issues coming.

Social media can cause anxiety especially if you are a type of individual that constantly listens to what other people are saying. I find social media very helpful for my business and to keep myself inform, however, I learned how to manage it with me being affected especially my mental health. Laugh on silly comments and don’t take comments seriously.

I definitely think social media can cause so much anxiety and there’s so much negativity around these days. I have met some lovely people though so, there’s definitely good and bad sides to the internet!

This was an interesting read and a well written post! I agree with you, social media can most definitely cause anxiety, it’s why I limit myself to checking my social media only two or three times a day and that too, only for a limited amount of time.
