Tips to help how to edit your blog through HTML. Something that I wanted to talk about for a long time. However, I didn’t get the time because I had a lot of topics to cover.

Well, I’m glad right now I’m writing it. It’s an important topic and a lot of bloggers would deal with problems if they are beginners or don’t know a lot about HTML.

I’m going to talk about HTML a little bit. Because some bloggers don’t know a lot about it. Especially, bloggers who just started blogging.

Also, share some important tips that will help you. You will know in this post how it will help you as well. Keep reading to know more about it.

If you are a blogger, you will know there are two ways to edit a blog. Blogger HTML code will be more important. One is through Layout and its drop and drag.

Simple and easy for everyone. However, another way is what I will talk about in this post. That is, through coding HTML.

For people using the blogger platform. Sometimes it’s only possible to edit something using HTML code. That’s how I started collecting these tips which can help you.

Well, if you are a new blogger and don’t know what is HTML. It’s The HyperText Markup Language or HTML is the standard markup language for documents designed to be displayed in a web browser.

It can be assisted by technologies such as Cascading Style Sheets and scripting languages such as JavaScript.

  1. Avoid ruining your blog or website
  2. Develop your skills by practicing code editing
  3. Make sure you edit it properly
  4. Ensure you finish editing successfully

This is not a post about the codes. Well, it will take more than one post to learn about the HTML code. However, this post will be about some of the great tips bloggers need to edit their blogs.

And the goal is to edit and don’t ruin anything. Because coding is sensitive. It depends on which platform you are using. Because Blogger HTML code will be used more often.

How to edit your blog through HTML and make sure that you don’t ruin it. Also, it will help you to learn more about coding. It’s a way that helped me to improve my knowledge of HTML.

So, keep reading to know about these tips that can help to avoid mistakes and don’t ruin your blog.

As a blogger, I want to edit my blog, but also I want to make sure that everything goes well. Even if you don’t know anything about coding.

1. Make sure to determine the opening and closing of the tags

This is not the first one that I usually do. However, when I’m editing my blog through HTML. I always make sure I know the opening and closing tags.

Every tag should have both. And it’s sensitive if you mess up. You might not need it if you add something, but knowing about it will help to make sure everything is clean.

How to edit HTML is not so easy. However, if you follow these tips to help how to edit your blog through HTML. It will help you to make sure things go well.

For me, I would need to know the closing and opening. Because I might get confused and edit somewhere I don’t want.

Well, this happened to me before. And it took me a while to figure out why there are no changes to what I wanted to edit. So, it’s so important to determine them both.

Well, this is what I started doing when I wanted to edit my blog using HTML code. Because if you don’t have any idea. It will be a struggle.

You don’t need to learn a lot in a short time. That would be impossible to do it. Also, there is a lot to learn. I would recommend learning a little bit every day.

However, you can learn as much as you can. Because it depends on you, but the more you learn, the faster you finish it.

This is an important step for me when editing. Because coding is sensitive and doing these, makes sure that I will get things back as it was if they didn’t go as planned.

Last but not least, if you are a beginner at coding. You will need to be careful and slow when editing. And this is the key to having successful editing.

Don’t rush for the results because that would cause you editing a longer time. Being careful and slow is the best option to start editing. Even when you copy using the free HTML code for the blog page.

You might speed up editing only if you already mastered HTML and CSS. If you know so well how to edit HTM.

Then, you can go a bit faster, but it still requires you to be careful and slow. This way, it will help to ensure things won’t be a mess. Coding is sensitive and anything could happen.

When I started coding, I would spend a lot of time and had so many mistakes. However, now I’m not a pro but I know more than when I started blogging. And that is because I kept doing these tips to help how to edit your blog through HTML.

6. Use The browser inspect feature

I’m not sure if you know this or not. But it’s a great way for me to edit the Blogger HTML code. And it’s one of the ways that help me to edit successfully.

Let me explain how this work. Because it’s not something people use it.

People use it, but not as much as they should. Especially, for people who just want to edit a theme. You will right-click anywhere on your blog tab.

Then, there will be options you see. Among them, it will be “inspect”.

That will help you to get the code where you want to edit. All you need to do is copy and look for it in the blog theme code.

It will be easy to do any edits or change the CSS as well. Well, that’s how I usually do it.

You don’t need to be a master in coding. I used to do this when I didn’t have any idea what HTML haha.

So, as long as you have some basics. It will be enough for you to start editing on your own. And it will help to understand the codes. Maybe you can use the blogger HTML code generator. It will help you get some codes.

7. Learn from other bloggers’ mistakes with coding

Sometimes people share their mistakes. And one thing that we should take is to learn from that. You don’t need to fall into the same things as other bloggers. Even friends love to share and talk about their experiences.
When I started blogging. I would avoid learning from others. And that got me into more trouble. Also, I feel like I’m a lot behind more than my other blogger friends. So, I decided to stop that bad habit and listen and learn from other bloggers.

Q: How do you learn from other bloggers?

  • Through conversations with other bloggers
  • Reading other blogs that share mistakes
  • Communities online that help others
  • Facebook groups related to blogging
  • Forums post questions and things about blogging
You can also share your experience with them. Because that will help them as well. Therefore, you guys will help each other.
Well, I don’t recommend hiding behind the rock and leaving others that could help you with your blogging journey.

8. Make a backup of your latest save of the theme

This is one of the most important steps anyone should do. Back up your progress before you edit more. This way, you make sure everything is safe.
Sometimes one edit could ruin everything. And you will need to start all over if it’s you are backed up.
If you have long editing. Make sure to save the progress. You don’t want to start all over again. Especially, when coding is not good.
And I know this from past experience. Before I move to WordPress, I used to use HTML edits to add or fix something.

Q: How to avoid forgetting to take a backup before editing?

A:  Make sure to remind yourself before you start. Also, always throughout the editing session, you will need to keep reminding yourself about taking a backup.
That’s why I mentioned the latest save. Editing the blog through HTML is sensitive. Things could get worse any minute.
 One simple mistake and you will be lost. Maybe everything will be ruined because of that. I highly recommend that you be careful.
I’m not sure what platform you are using. But I’m sure you would get an option to make a backup before you do anything.
This will be so helpful when editing. And if something goes wrong. Just make sure to use the backup.
When I started blogging, I wasn’t a big fan of backups. That caused me a lot of trouble in the past. And from that, I learned that it’s important to do it before editing anything. I don’t want you to make the same mistake as I did in the past.

9. Avoid editing if you don’t know what is it about

Something I like to do when editing through HTML. If something that I don’t know it. I would leave it as it is.
That’s because maybe would make things worse if I edit it. Until I know how to do it and what it is. Nothing that I can do in this case.
And I highly recommend you do the same. There will be complicated stuff that you don’t understand. Make sure you follow these tips on the post to help you understand.
Otherwise, leave everything as it is and find someone that can make any edits you want to the blog.
Since you will be learning about coding and HTML. Do whatever edits you can for the moment. And as you learn more about it.
 It will give you the chance to edit more on the blog. Don’t rush the process because it’s not good. If you want urgent edit, make sure to ask someone who knows to help with it.
 I’ve had a lot of mistakes before. For some of them, I had to reset everything for the theme. It took me days to edit them.
 But now that I learned from my previous mistakes. Well, it’s rare for me to reset the theme these days.

10. Keep track of the codes you add to your blog

Another very important thing. Since you will start editing through HTML. You will need to keep track of every code you add. Because sometimes it might slow the server due to a lot of codes.
Also, sometimes you might stop using it. This way, you will know which one and where is it.
One of the things that can slow down your website. And that is unused codes whether HTML, CSS or even javascript.
So, make sure to know what you added to the blog. Also, where did you put it to make it easy for you to search for it?

Ways to keep track of the code:

  • Have enough space between codes in the area you are editing
  • Write down the last code you are editing
  • Remind yourself throughout the editing session
Keep a copy of the code saved somewhere on your laptop or PC.
Maybe it will be useful in the future to look for it. You can just copy a part of it and search for it. That is one way I would do it if I were going to add any code to my blog.
Some tools like Google analytics might ask you to put a code in the HTML editor. It’s one of the important things you need to pay attention to.
 Because I had some issues in the past dealing with codes like this.
This will make your life so much easier dealing with any code problems.
If you add a lot of the codes, it will be easy to keep track of them doing it this way. So, I highly recommend keeping track of them from the beginning.

11. Ensure the right place for whatever code you want to add

Well, as I mentioned in the previous ones. You will need to be careful adding or editing. And part of that is making sure that you are adding it in the right place.
Don’t rush this and regret it later. You will have a hard time dealing with it in some situations.
This will be more for people who use bloggers for their blogs. Because you will need to add some codes using the HTML editor.
Therefore, you will need to be more careful. And I had some problems dealing with this in the past as well.

Q: How can you avoid ruining the entire code when placing it in the wrong area?

A: Make sure to remember where the last place you placed the code. Pay attention to the error log which can help you to change and fix your coding errors. This way, you will ensure not to ruin the entire code.
Whether it’s a CSS or any code. As long as you are sure it’s in the right place. That would be fine and spend some time confirming it.
So, it might take some time to finish editing your blog through an HTML editor.

Q: Do you need to ensure the right place for scripts?

A: Sure, since it’s one of the code types. You will need to be more careful because scripts are sensitive and might break the webpage.
Sometimes the code won’t work if it’s not in the right place. And you might think something wrong with the code. But nothing is wrong, but you need to choose the right place.
It’s one of the most important things bloggers would need.

    I learned HTML coding 20 years ago in high school and still use it for my blog! I do a bit of both, the drag and drop style then make small tweaks with html and css.

    It's really easy to make a mistake when it comes to editing code. Luckily, I don't have to do it much. Should you have to edit HTML code, remember to use American English. I kept using actual English which caused something's to not work correctly

    For my blog, I use a drag and drop editor on WordPress. Whenever I have had to use code it makes my brain hurt. At least its good to know there's video tutorials out there if needed.
